After 15 years as a blue-chip, global brand and product marketeer, I was classically trained on high profile global brands, launched award winning campaigns, and worked for some of the largest entertainment and television broadcasting companies in the world. Managing large teams, big budgets, and being commercially accountable, I often felt the HR function was simply underwhelming, rigid, and uninspiring; the resource provided no value to the business and was often completely removed for the day-to-day nor had any commercial accountability. I felt HR was simply a cost-center and often failed to add value to operations.
Rather than complain, I accepted the opportunity to take a career pivot and lead the full People and Culture functions including operations, talent acquisition, payroll, HR tech, employment brand and internal communications.
Leading the HR practice in the USA, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean - I’ve been able to use my experience and leverage my unique skill set to build an advisory practice that's unlike most consultants. I’m selective, creative and passionate about all things HX. I have the perfect balance of real start-up, scale-up, pre IPO and working for multi-billion publicly listed companies. I’ve been through change, crisis and rapid growth phases.
Best of all, I’ve found my niche - working with companies, owner operators and entrepreneurs that see value in their people, yet remain commercially driven. I work with leaders that are on the quest to change their culture and lay the right foundations before ramping for growth and scale.
Word on the camel.
Camels are the new unicorns. I wanted to identify with a brand symbol of sustainability, success and be a humble high-achiever. Nothing flashy. Nothing shiny. Unlike unicorns, camels are in for the long-haul. They can survive without food and water for months. They sleep whilst standing. When the time is right, they can sprint rapidly for sustained periods of time. But most importantly, they’re adaptable. While the metaphor may not be as flashy as the glittery unicorn, these startup camels prioritise sustainability, and thus survival, from the get-go by balancing strong growth and cash flow.
